Udaipur, Under the Beti Bachao–Beti Padhao campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Udaipur Rural MLA Phool Singh Meena initiated a unique tradition enabling tribal girls to experience air travel. On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, 26 meritorious students flew to Jaipur along with MLA Meena and his wife, Smt. Shantidevi. The girls met the Governor and the Chief Minister, received their blessings, and visited several educational and heritage sites.
An Inspiring Initiative
Every year, the MLA takes top-performing girl students from each panchayat and ward of his constituency (Classes 10 and 12) on an educational air journey to Jaipur. What began with just 3 girls has now expanded to 56, with 30 already taken in the first phase. In Jaipur, the girls interacted with Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, and Deputy CM Premchand Bairwa, who encouraged them to pursue their dreams for the nation’s progress.
Educational and Cultural Exposure
The girls visited the Constitution Park to learn about India’s democratic framework, observed the Assembly proceedings, and received valuable insights from MLA Meena, who is a member of the Speaker’s Panel and Chairperson of the Tribal Welfare Committee. They also explored Jantar Mantar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and admired the Hawa Mahal, designed in the shape of Lord Krishna’s crown.
MLA’s Commitment to Education
Having left studies at age 15 due to family hardships, MLA Meena resumed education 40 years later, inspired by his highly educated daughters, and is now pursuing a Master’s degree. He expressed joy that his initiative has not only motivated girls to excel in board exams but has also curbed child marriage by raising awareness among parents about the importance of education.
