Udaipur – In line with the Rajasthan Government’s directive to prevent rain-related accidents and ensure the safety of human life, District Collector Namit Mehta conducted a video conference (VC) on Tuesday with district, sub-divisional, and panchayat-level committees regarding the launch of a special survey campaign of dilapidated buildings, roads, and culverts across the district.
Held at the Mini Auditorium of the Collectorate, the meeting included departmental officials, SDMs, Tehsildars, BDOs, CBOs, BCMHOs, and others, connected via VC. The Collector instructed them to act with urgency and sensitivity, complete the survey, and submit reports in the prescribed format within 3 to 4 days. A Google Sheet is to be maintained and updated daily with survey data.
At the village level, Patwaris and Village Development Officers are to be activated for field surveys.
Key attendees included ADM (Administration) Dipendra Singh Rathore, CEO Riya Dabi, Girwa SDM Avula Sai Krishna, CDEO Pratibha Gupta, CMHO Dr. Ashok Aditya, ICDS Deputy Director Nandlal Meghwal, and PWD SE Mr. Meena. All block-level officials joined through VC.
The Collector emphasized that no usage of dangerous or technically unsafe buildings should be allowed. If any accident occurs due to negligence, responsibility will be fixed on the concerned official. Structures deemed unsafe during the survey should be immediately sealed, including adjacent rooms if necessary, as the impact may extend.
The Collector reviewed the list of unsafe school buildings with Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan ADPC Nanihal Singh, who reported that approval has been granted for the demolition of 50 school buildings. The Collector ordered these buildings to be demolished within the next two days, and a report submitted promptly.
All officials were instructed to remain on alert mode. In the event of any accident, concerned departmental officials must visit the site immediately, assess the situation, and report to higher authorities without delay.
If buildings requiring minor repairs are identified, such work should be immediately completed in coordination with gram panchayats or municipal bodies. The CEO of the Zila Parishad was directed to ensure BDO cooperation.
Some officers pointed out the difficulty in conducting surveys if schools close before committees arrive. Hence, the Collector instructed the Chief District Education Officer to issue an order directing that schools remain open until 4 PM until the survey is completed. A responsible staff member must remain present. The order must clearly state that this provision is temporary and survey-specific.
Pending disaster relief cases must be resolved promptly, and aid provided to affected individuals.
Public complaints about unsafe buildings, roads, or culverts must be treated seriously and investigated immediately.
