Chairman of State Pollution Control Board Engages with Industrial Associations

 

Udaipur | During his visit to Udaipur, Dr. Ravi Kumar Surpur, Chairman of the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board, held a dialogue with representatives of various industrial associations to address key issues concerning sustainable industrial development and environmental protection.

The meeting was attended by Regional Officer Sharad Saxena along with the entire staff of the Pollution Control Board and office-bearers of prominent industrial bodies including the Udaipur Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Udaipur Chemical Association, Laghu Bharati, Udaipur Marble Association, Mines Association, Builders Association, Indian Medical Association, and representatives of joint biomedical and hazardous waste disposal sites. Representatives from Hindustan Zinc Debari and Zawar Mines, Udaipur Cement, Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals, Pesticides India, Pacific Hospitals (Bhilo ka Bedla and Umarda), Maharana Bhupal Hospital, Lake Palace Hotel, HRH Group of Hotels, Raffles Hotel, and various fertilizer, drug, pharma, textile, and dye units also participated.

Key Discussion Points:

Land Selection: Expansion of the hazardous waste disposal site and identification of integrated waste treatment land by the Udaipur Chamber.

Sewage Issues: The Hotel Association raised concerns about untreated sewage entering lakes and the absence of sewer systems in several areas.

Solid Waste Management: Classification of hotels with up to 70 rooms under the Green Category was also discussed.

Afforestation Challenges: Marble and industrial units highlighted the difficulties in complying with the 33% plantation requirement on their premises.

Biomedical Waste: The Indian Medical Association expressed concerns over the cost and barcoding processes for biomedical waste disposal.

Pollution Control Board Committed to Resolving Industrial Challenges

Dr. Surpur emphasized the state government’s commitment under the leadership of the Chief Minister to maximizing industrial growth while maintaining environmental integrity. He stressed that only coordinated efforts between industrial development and environmental preservation could lead to holistic progress.

He assured continuous support from the Pollution Control Board in promptly addressing the concerns of entrepreneurs and investors. He also highlighted the importance of compliance with the Water, Air, and Environment Protection Acts, and explained the concept of environmental compensation based on the ‘Polluter Pays’ principle.

Dr. Surpur confirmed that such interaction programs will continue in the future. The participating representatives and officials appreciated the initiative, recognizing its importance in the current context for fostering understanding and cooperation between industries and regulatory bodies.
