Udaipur, National Sports Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Maharana Pratap Khelgaon under the joint aegis of the District Sports Council and Sir Padampat Singhania University (SPSU). A special hockey exhibition match was organized, where Dhyan Chand XI defeated Captain Roop Singh XI 3-1 in a penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.
The program was presided over by Prof. (Dr.) Udayprakash R. Singh, Registrar, SPSU, who welcomed the guests and stressed the importance of sports in shaping character and discipline among youth. Dr. Kuldeep Singh Jhala, Director Sports & Organizing Secretary, SPSU, shared details of the successful event and reiterated the university’s commitment to encouraging hockey and other sports as part of its holistic education framework.
Adding to this vision, Lt. (Dr.) D.S. Chauhan, Deputy Dean Sports, SPSU, highlighted the role of the university in nurturing a sporting culture. He noted that SPSU has always promoted active participation in competitive and recreational sports, seeing them as vital to the overall growth of students. He added that celebrations like National Sports Day not only honor icons like Major Dhyan Chand but also inspire the younger generation to adopt teamwork, discipline, and resilience in life.
Chief Guest, Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat, interacted with the players, encouraged them, and underlined sports as a medium for youth development. Special Guest, Social Worker Gajpal Singh Rathore, assured his support for raising the standard of hockey in Udaipur.
On the occasion, several sports personalities including former District Sports Officer Giridhari Singh Chauhan, Ajit Jain, Shakeel Hussain, Pushpraj Singh Ranawat, Nahar Singh Jhala, Digvijay Singh Ranawat, Mahipal Singh Jhala, Kuldeep Sharma, Siddharth Singh Rathore, Krishnakant Yadav, and Lalit Prajapat were honored.
District Sports Officer Dr. Mahesh Paliwal expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, players, and organizers. He also informed that floral tributes were paid at the Khelgaon swimming pool in the morning on Major Dhyan Chand Jayanti. Saturday’s schedule includes a yoga session at 7 am at the pool and various competitions from 4 pm onwards at different venues.
Poster of Sansad Khel Mahotsav Released
During the celebration, MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat unveiled the poster of the forthcoming Sansad Khel Mahotsav scheduled from 21st to 25th December. Addressing sports enthusiasts, he said that sports enhance decision-making abilities even in adverse conditions and appealed for mass participation in the upcoming event.
