Udaipur: Recognizing the importance of social initiatives and blood donation, Our Lady of Fatima Church, located in Alipura, Udaipur, organized its first-ever blood donation camp on Sunday. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Vipin Chandra Mathur, Principal of RNT Medical College, with dedicated support from the college’s Department of Transfusion Medicine.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Mathur emphasized the life-saving potential of blood donation, stating that one donor can save three lives. He also highlighted the significance of organ donation, noting that it can benefit up to eight patients. He urged for greater awareness and initiatives in the field of organ donation.
The event witnessed remarkable participation from women. Dr. Vandana Chhabra, Senior Professor and Head of the Department of Transfusion Medicine, expressed her delight, saying, “I am overwhelmed by the large participation of women in this blood donation camp.” Due to the enthusiastic community involvement, more than 50 units of blood were successfully collected.
Vicar General of the Cathedral, Father George CM, expressed gratitude and congratulated the donors for their selfless contribution. Parish Priest Father Babu Chirayath thanked Dr. Mathur and the medical team for their invaluable support, assuring more such social initiatives in the future. He also sought Dr. Mathur’s support for the church’s upcoming health check-up camp.
Claude D’Souza, Vice President of Our Lady of Fatima Parish Council, stated that such initiatives are the need of the hour and that no deed is nobler than donating blood. He assured that blood donation and other welfare camps will be made a regular activity. Parish Council Secretary Akhil D’Souza, along with Thomas Chacko, Joseph Philipose, Thankachan KT, Dr. Rajesh Acharya, Tony Varghese, Suja Thomas, Bindu Alphons, Priya Jo, Siji Acharya, Jinsi Sebastian, Saneesh Thomas, Arpita Makwana, Mariamma Varghese, Elsyamma PJ, and Annamma PJ, contributed significantly to making the camp a grand success.
This event marked a significant step in the church’s commitment to social welfare and community service, setting an example for future initiatives aimed at enhancing public health and well-being.
