Jaisalmer,A vibrant new chapter in rural entrepreneurship and women's empowerment began on Tuesday with the grand inauguration of “Aakanksha Haat”, organized by the District Council of Jaisalmer under the Aspirational District and Block Programme of the NITI Aayog. The event, themed on ‘Vocal for Local’, is being held at the historic Akheprol Complex near the Jaisalmer Fort and will run for an entire week.
The initiative is designed to provide a market platform for local products while empowering women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) through direct participation and sales. The Chief Executive Officer of the District Council and NITI Aayog's Nodal Officer, Mrs. Rashmi Rani, informed that products created by Rajeevika SHGs are being exhibited and sold at the event. The offerings include a wide range of items such as handicrafts, traditional attire, household goods, spices, food items, and decorative materials.
Mrs. Rani highlighted that “Aakanksha Haat” not only serves as a channel for economic self-reliance for rural women, but is also a meaningful step toward giving national and global recognition to Jaisalmer’s traditional products. By practically implementing the spirit of ‘Vocal for Local,’ the event ensures that local artisans and producers receive fair market value for their goods.
The inauguration saw enthusiastic participation from Assistant District Collector Rohit Verma, various administrative officials, public representatives, local citizens, and a large number of women’s groups. The guests visited different stalls and appreciated the craftsmanship and effort displayed by the women.
Commending the initiative, the CEO remarked that such activities strengthen the rural economy and boost the confidence of women. She appealed to the residents of the district to visit “Aakanksha Haat” in large numbers, support local products, and contribute actively to the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).
