New Delhi – Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal said that under the guidelines of the Government of India’s New Education Policy, arrangements for teaching in the mother tongue can be implemented in primary schools of the state. He clarified that the decision lies within the jurisdiction and discretion of the state government.
Meghwal was speaking after meeting Kesari Chand Maloo, Chairman of the Rajasthani Language Recognition Committee, at the Parliament House. Maloo discussed the inclusion of the Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, along with the development of art, culture, literature, and other social issues.
The Minister informed that proposals to grant constitutional recognition to Rajasthani, Bhojpuri, and Bhoti languages are under consideration, and several MPs have raised the matter in Parliament earlier as well. He noted that as per the NEP, primary education in Rajasthan can be conducted in Rajasthani, which encompasses the state’s various regional dialects.
Maloo also briefed the Minister about the Sur Sangam organisation’s 50-year-old tradition of hosting the National Annual Youth Festival and invited him to be the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 36th edition, scheduled for 1–2 October at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.
