Udaipur | Special Correspondent In compliance with the directions of Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma following recent school building accidents in Udaipur and Jhalawar, a large-scale safety inspection campaign has been launched in Udaipur district under the leadership of District Collector and Disaster Management Authority Chairman, Namit Mehta.
As part of this campaign, every government structure—including schools, anganwadis, hospitals, roads, culverts, electricity poles, and government offices—will be examined for structural health and safety. Committees have been constituted at the subdivision and gram panchayat levels, with technical staff included to ensure thorough assessments.
All departmental officers across the district have also been directed to inspect the buildings under their jurisdiction and submit their reports by August 5, 2025.
Chief Minister’s Directive Sparks Immediate Action
Collector Mehta stated that during a video conference held on July 25, the Chief Minister issued detailed instructions to all district administrations. Following this, a week-long campaign is being undertaken in Udaipur to physically inspect all government buildings and infrastructure to assess safety risks—especially during the ongoing monsoon season.
Key Directives to Officers
District officials have been ordered to:
Assess the condition of schools, hostels, health centers, and power infrastructure.
Identify and label dilapidated structures and immediately prohibit their use.
Repair rainwater-affected buildings, broken windows, loose electrical wiring, and damaged roofs on a priority basis.
Ensure proper drainage and cleanliness around buildings.
Prepare and send repair proposals with cost estimates for funding from the State Disaster Relief Fund.
The Electricity Department has also been instructed to coordinate efforts to repair loose wires, damaged poles, and install warning signs at hazardous locations.
Subdivision and Panchayat Committees in Action
A subdivision-level committee has been formed under the leadership of each Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO). These committees will prepare safety audit reports for unsafe buildings, damaged roads, and vulnerable bridges. They are authorized to declare unsafe structures and recommend demolition if needed. Members include officials from the PWD, Tehsildar office, local municipalities, health, education, electricity, and water departments.
At the village level, cluster-based committees have been formed. Each cluster of 4–5 gram panchayats will be overseen by a team comprising a Junior Engineer, Junior Technical Assistant, Land Records Inspector, and Panchayat Elementary Education Officer (PEEO). These teams will conduct physical verifications and submit their reports through the SDO to the Collector’s Office.
PEEOs will act as coordinators and supervise daily inspections. They will ensure that unsafe rooms are sealed, and children relocated to nearby safe government buildings. Specific attention will be paid to roof safety, wiring, water storage, and boundary walls. The committees also hold the responsibility to recommend temporary closure of schools in case of heavy rainfall.
This special campaign demonstrates the state government's proactive approach to preventing accidents during the monsoon by ensuring all government infrastructures are structurally sound and secure for public use.
