Suhas is Far From the Perfect Father, and That’s What Makes Him Fascinating” – Varun Badola on His Role in Sony SAB’s Itti Si Khushi

Mumbai: Sony SAB’s Itti Si Khushi has been winning hearts with its heartfelt portrayal of family dynamics. At the center of the story is Suhas (played by Varun Badola)—a father who is far from ideal. Unlike the stereotypical on-screen parent, Suhas is flawed, unpredictable, and emotionally distant. Yet, his journey plays a vital role in the transformation of his entire family.

Through Badola’s performance, viewers witness Suhas’s irritability, vulnerabilities, and subtle moments of redemption—traits that spark conversations about the complexities of parenthood. Known for bringing depth to multifaceted roles, Varun opens up about what drew him to Itti Si Khushi, how he prepared to break stereotypes of fatherhood on screen, and his bond with co-star Sumbul Touqeer Khan (Anvita).

Breaking the “Perfect Father” Stereotype

Speaking about Suhas’s unconventional persona, Varun said:
“Every actor looks for challenges, and Suhas gives me exactly that. He is not the ideal father—he has flaws, he’s unpredictable, sometimes frustrating, yet deeply human. That’s what makes him so enjoyable to play. For me, this role is refreshing because it’s unlike anything I’ve done before, and that variety keeps me motivated.”

Crafting the On-Screen Father–Daughter Bond

On sharing screen space with Sumbul, Varun explained:
“We didn’t have to make any special effort. I have seen her work and truly believe she’s one of the most talented artists on television today. I’m sure she has seen my work as well. That mutual respect and ease strengthened our on-screen bond. Sometimes, the deepest relationships are built off-camera through simple, casual conversations. Ultimately, it’s about how comfortable you are with each other, and that chemistry naturally reflects on screen.”

Balancing Suhas’s Irritable Yet Endearing Nature

“Honestly, it wasn’t difficult. I simply follow the brief given by the writers and director. I trust their vision and shape my performance accordingly. If audiences find Suhas both annoying and lovable at the same time, it means we’ve succeeded—and that’s the most rewarding thing for an actor.”

Working With Young Co-Stars

Varun also praised the energy on set:
“The younger actors bring incredible energy. They blend well with everyone. Due to my other commitments, I don’t get much time with them off-set, but when I watch the episodes, it’s clear they’re giving their heart and soul to the show. Seeing their performances come alive on screen is truly a joy.”

What Lies Ahead in the Story

When asked about upcoming twists, Varun hinted:
“The story will take many turns in the episodes ahead. Without giving too much away, I can say Suhas’s journey will surprise the audience and maybe even challenge their perspective. A lot of emotional drama and depth are coming, so viewers should definitely stay tuned.”
