National Seminar held at Govt. Meera Girls College

Udaipur. a National Seminar on Plant Taxonomy and Nomenclature was held at Govt. Meera Girls College, Udaipur. The organizing secretary Dr. Vartika Jain said that the seminar was organized by Dept. of Botany and IQAC of Govt. Meera Girls College, Udaipur in collaboration with Indian Botanical Society, Udaipur Chapter. The program was started with the garlanding of Maa Sarswati. Convener of the program Prof. Savita Chahar welcomed all the distinguished guests and participants of the seminar. Principal of MG College, Dr Meena Baya blessed the gathering and said that the correct identification of plants is must and these kinds of seminars are the need of the hour as plants are the backbone of human life and used in several medicines. IQAC Coordinator Prof. Anjana Gautam said that during COVID-19 everyone had to depend on plant based medicines and that is why plants are so important. In nature, there are several types of plants available and to find out the correct one needs a great expertise. For that purpose, the seminar has been planned. Dr. Vineet Soni, President of IBS, Udaipur chapter also welcomed everyone and motivated students to learn more and more while interacting with eminent speakers. 
The keynote speaker of the seminar Prof. Surendra Singh, who served as Director, ITS Institute at CCS University, Meerut was introduced to the audience by Prof. Geeta Swami. He taught the students various important concepts of plant nomenclature in simple language. He also clarified the various queries of the students related to Herbaria, voucher specimen no., accession numbers, holotypes, paratypes etc. He also demonstrated identification of plants growing in the college campus. Dr. Vartika gave heartfelt thanks to Prof. Singh for giving his valuable time to students.
The plenary speaker of the Seminar Dr. Farhat Banu was introduced to the audience by Prof. Kiran Tak. Prof. Banu was retired from Botany Dept. of MG College and had an expertise in plant taxonomy. She spoke on vegetation of Rajasthan in context with ecological changes and gave several examples of herbs, shrubs, trees and climbers in her PPT presentation. She also told about the endemism in flora existing in Rajasthan and gave various clues for identification of plants. Organizing secretary Dr. Vartika summarized her talk and extended big thanks to Prof. Banu for sparing time and sharing her knowledge. 
In the end, Prof. Anamika Singhvi, Co-convener of the Seminar gave vote of thanks to each and every person involved directly or indirectly in the Seminar. More than 100 participants attended the Seminar. Anchoring of the seminar was carried out by students of M.Sc. Botany, Mahima Patel and Siddhi Choubisa.
