Kota, The organization Hum Log Sanstha has resolved to discourage the immersion of Plaster of Paris (POP) idols in natural water bodies such as the Chambal River, Kishore Sagar Lake, and other reservoirs on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi. This decision was taken in a meeting held today, where gratitude was expressed towards the media and district administration for their active cooperation in creating awareness in favor of clay idols.
At the outset, convener Dr. Sudhir Gupta remarked that due to the sustained efforts of the organization, the practice of installing clay idols during Ganeshotsav has grown significantly in Kota. He added that idol makers have also made commendable contributions in this direction.
Dr. Gupta further informed that to bring the issue of water pollution caused by POP idols before the public, water samples taken before and after immersion will be shared transparently. Environmentalist Raju Gupta stated that numerical data on POP idol immersions will be collected on Anant Chaturdashi and submitted to the administration, along with a demand to carry out desilting in the affected water sources.
Railway Advisory Committee member Dheeraj Gupta emphasized that such efforts of the organization are aimed at ensuring a clean water future for the community. He also noted that public awareness is key to securing safe water for generations ahead.
The meeting also discussed the flood-like conditions created by the flow of the Chandrabhaga River in Sathur. It was agreed that scientific and conventional measures must be adopted to regulate the speed of water from the river’s origin. The organization further resolved to create a strong public campaign against encroachments in flood-prone areas and to promote large-scale tree plantation.
Concerns were also raised over the exclusion of Chambal Safari from the state government’s One District, One Destination initiative. The organization decided to write to the Tourism Department on this matter. Dheeraj Gupta added that if photographs related to Chambal Safari are provided, the Railway Department is ready to display them at railway stations and inside trains.
The meeting was attended by Ashok Sharma, Jai Laxwani, Advocate Beta Swami, Naresh Sharma, Anurag Fatehpuriya, Sushil Singh, Khalid Iqbal, and Prithvipal Singh, who also shared their views.
