Udaipur, A complex medical case was successfully handled at Pacific Hospital, Bhilwara Bedla, where modern technology Thoracoscopy was used for accurate diagnosis, bringing much-needed relief to the patient. This advanced procedure was carried out successfully by Pulmonologist and Interventional Specialist Dr. Atul Luhadia and his team.
The case involved a 62-year-old patient from Banswara, who had been suffering for over a month from persistent cough, chest pain, and difficulty in breathing. He was admitted to Dr. Luhadia’s unit at PMCH. Initial tests confirmed the presence of fluid accumulation in the pleura (the lining around the lungs).
Dr. Luhadia explained that fluid was first removed with a needle and tested, but the root cause could not be identified. Therefore, it was decided to conduct Thoracoscopy, a modern, minimally invasive procedure where an endoscope-like instrument is used to examine the inner surface of the lungs and chest cavity. During the procedure, a large amount of fluid and several nodules were detected. The fluid was drained, and biopsies of the nodules were taken for further analysis.
Highlighting the advantages, Dr. Luhadia said that Thoracoscopy carries fewer risks than open surgery, requires only a small incision, avoids complete anesthesia, reduces hospital stay, and is cost-effective.
The procedure was successfully conducted with the support of Dr. Nishchay Bhardwaj, Dr. Arvind, Dr. Richa, Dr. Dew, technicians Lokendra and Deepak, and nursing staff member Ram Prasad.
Pacific Hospital Chairman Rahul Agrawal stated that the hospital’s mission is not only to provide medical care but also to ensure quality healthcare is available to those in need, either free or at affordable rates. Offering advanced procedures like Thoracoscopy free of cost is proving to be a blessing for poor patients and stands as a commendable initiative in the field of healthcare.
