New Delhi – After a long span of 127 years, the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha have returned to their rightful land—India. Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat formally received the relics with reverence at the Delhi Airport on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shekhawat stated that this sacred repatriation is the result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s deeply committed efforts, guided by his profound belief that “India is the land of Lord Buddha.”
The relics, originally discovered in 1898 at Piprahwa in Uttar Pradesh, were taken out of the country during British colonial rule. When they were recently exhibited for international auction, Prime Minister Modi immediately resolved to bring them back to India, the minister said.
Shekhawat emphasized the historical and spiritual significance of the relics and described their return as a moment of cultural pride and national heritage restoration.
