Banswara – The traditional and deeply revered Manchavrat Chauth Vrat, reflecting the devotion to Lord Shiva in the Vagad region, will commence on Monday, July 28, corresponding to Shravan Shukla Chaturthi. This sacred observance continues for four consecutive months, every Monday, attracting thousands of devotees to Shiva temples across Banswara and Dungarpur districts.
Shiv devotee and Secretary of Shri Vaneshwar Mahadev Sanyakaalin Seva Mandal, Shantilal Bhavsar, shared that this Shaivite tradition has been observed in the Vagad region for centuries. The ritual begins with the taking of a vow using five lengths of raw thread, twisted four times, and includes placing four knots, a coin or photo of Mahadev, and a betel nut in a small container. Offerings of sandalwood paste, perfume, vermillion, and sacred rice are made, followed by the listening of the Manchavrat Katha.
Each Monday until Kartik Shukla Chaturthi (the fourth day after Diwali), men and women continue this sacred practice by gathering at nearby temples to hear the weekly narration of the vrat story. Participants maintain purity, simplicity, and devotion throughout the four months, offering their heartfelt prayers to Lord Shiva for prosperity and the fulfillment of personal wishes.
As per ancient beliefs, this vrat is said to absolve all sins and fulfill the devotee’s desires through Lord Shiva’s blessings. This is why, even today, thousands of devotees in Vagad faithfully observe the Manchavrat Chauth for the entire four-month period.
The conclusion of the vrat will take place on Kartik Shukla Chaturthi, following Diwali.
