Famous Indian Film Writer Prayag Raj Passes Away

Renowned Indian film writer, director, and actor Prayag Raj passed away on Saturday, September 23. He began his career with the 'Prithvi Theater' and achieved his first writing opportunity in the 1963 film 'Phool Bane Angare,' launching a prolific career in film writing.

As a writer, Prayag Raj contributed to over 35 films, including notable works like 'Ajooba,' 'Ganga Jamuna Saraswati,' 'Mard,' 'Giraftaar,' 'Coolie,' 'Naseeb,' 'Suhaag,' and 'Amar Akbar Anthony,' among others. He is also known for lending his voice to the iconic opening note "Yahoo" in the superhit song 'Chaahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe' from the film 'Junglee,' starring Shammi Kapoor.

In the blockbuster film 'Sachaa Jhutha,' he portrayed the role of a tea seller opposite superstar Rajesh Khanna. Prayag Raj's contributions spanned beyond film writing; he also ventured into acting, direction, singing, and even songwriting. He was part of some international film projects as well.

Born in Allahabad, he was named after his hometown. His father, Ram Das Azaad, was a renowned poet of his time. As a director, his first film 'Kundan' featured Shatrughan Sinha. He went on to direct films such as 'Paap Aur Punya' and 'Ponga Pandit,' making a mark in the industry.

Prayag Raj's legacy is marked by his significant contributions to Hindi cinema, particularly as a scriptwriter for some of Amitabh Bachchan's most successful films during the 1970s and 1990s.
