Madhu Limaye Advocated Unity of Socialists and Communists: Dr.Sunilam

Udaipur, “Madhu Limaye was an intellectual who contributed immensely to the ideology of socialism in India and to the democratic discourse through parliamentary debates. He was conscious of the rise of fascist forces even in his life time and advocated unity between Socialists and Communists to safeguard the constitution and democracy in India.” This was stated by Dr. Sunilam, socialist leader and member of “Sanyukt Kisaan Morcha” in a function organized to commemorate Madhu Lamaye on his birth centenary year by Samta Samvaad Manch, Janatantrik Vichaar Manch, All India Trade Union Congress, All India People’s Forum and Samajvadi Samagam. He said that Madhu Limaye believed that a new society in India can be developed by a coordination of Gandhian and Ambedkar’s philosophy. Dr. Sunilam said that the younger generation in this country have lost faith in the politicians because they think that politics is done in order to make money by hook or by crook. He said that by giving example of people like Madhu Limaye , Madhu Dandvate, Karpuri Thakur etc. we can develop their faith again in those politicians who are working with commitment for the nation and for the countrymen. Comrade Jayanti panchal, General Secretary of Gujarat Mazdoor Panchayat said that the present central government is in the control of corporate capitalists and is serving their interests. It framed the Farmers’ Bill and replaced all Trade Union Laws by the four labour codes just to fulfill their interests. He said that the RSS is capturing all the institutions in the country. In Gujarat they have captured Gandhi Ashram on the Bank of Sabarmati and also Gujarat Vidyapeeth founded by Mahatma Gandhi.To protect our democratic institutions it is necessary to forge unity among all forces willing to fight such fascists, he said.

Aseem Roy, Leader of Gujarat Chemical Workers Panchayat said that the rightist forces in India got strengthened in 1977 when Janata Party was formed. The Jansangh dissolved and re-emerged as Bhartiya Janta Party. The Socialists who were the main force behind the Sampoorn Kranti Movement somehow could not emerged as a strong united force once they merged into Janata Party earlier and then in Janta Dal. He said that coming together of the socialists, communists and Ambedkarites in some way can strengthen democratic forces in the country and can facilitate a much needed social and political change. He stated that to fight the fascist forces in the country the presence of a centralist party is also necessary. Sushila Tai Morale from Maharashtra talked about the role of women in socialist movement and mentioned the flock of schools she runs after the name of freedom fighter and socialist leader Aruna Asaf Ali. She criticized the New Education Policy 2020 brought in by NDA government. She said that it is regressive and most unscientific. It has converted teachers into salespersons and students into customers. Presiding over the programme Prof. Arun Chaturvedi, former Head, Department of Political Science, M.L.Sukhadia University called the time of Indian Parliament during which Madhu Limaye was a member as the golden period of Indian Parliament. He said that debates at that time were well informed and very educative. He narrated his memoirs related with Madhu Limaye.

In the beginning of the Programme editor of Mahaveer Samta Sandesh introduced the programme and narrated the life and contributions of Madhu Limaye. He said that Madhu Limaye led the Goa Mukti Movement and was arrested there. He spent nineteen months in Portugese jail in Goa. Senior journalist and convener of the Samta Samvad Manch Himmat Seth introduced the guests and stated that despite his immense contribution to the freedom movement Madhu Limaye did not accept any pension either as freedom fighter of a member of parliament throughout his life. Ashok Manthan , president of Yugdhara recited his poem to mark the beginning of the programme. Dr. Farhat Bano , who has been elected as a member of the Central Committee of CPI ( ML) recently was felicitated in the programme. Dr. Sarvat Khan, President of Samta Samvad Manch offered the vote of thanks.

State President of Janata Dal Secular Arjun Daitha, State Committee member of CPI (ML) and convener of All India People’s Forum , Udaipur Shankar Lal Chaudhary, Dr. C.D.Ola district secretary of CPI (M.L.), Saurabh Naruka, state secretary of AICCTU, convener of Janatantrik VicharManch Piyush Joshi, senior poet Jai Prakash Pandya Jyotipunj, Ramdayal Mehra, Convener of Coordination committee of trade unions P.S.Khichi, Poet Abid Adeeb, Dr.Rakesh Dashora, poet Mushtaque Chanchal, M.L.Seth, A.H.Danish, Ismail Ali Durga, Satyanarayan Vyas from Bhilwara ,Ram Chandra Salvi of Janta Dal Secular etc. participated in the programme.
