Udaipur,The Udaipur City and Rural District Congress Committee jointly staged a protest and submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police, demanding action against the Station House Officer (SHO) accused of misbehaving with former MLA Preeti Shaktawat.
The incident occurred during a peaceful bandh led by Shaktawat and local residents at the Sheetla Mata Temple, Vallabhnagar, where a major theft involving lakhs of rupees took place over fifteen days ago. The accused are still at large, raising questions about the efficiency of the local police.
During the bandh, the SHO allegedly behaved insensitively and disrespectfully toward the former legislator. District Congress spokesperson Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit stated that such conduct is not only an insult to an elected representative but also deeply hurts public sentiment.
Following the protest, Udaipur Rural District Congress President Kachru Lal Chaudhary addressed the media, stating, "Public representatives are the bridge between the people and the administration. If this is how they are treated, what hope remains for the common man?" He demanded the immediate suspension of the SHO to restore public confidence and ensure such behavior is not repeated.
Udaipur City District Congress President Fateh Singh Rathore condemned the police's failure in solving the temple theft case. He added, "Rather than accepting their failure, the police are trying to silence dissent by mistreating public representatives. This will not be tolerated."
The protest was attended by several senior Congress leaders, including State Congress Vice President Suresh Shrimali, General Secretary Lal Singh Jhala, Former Minister Asrar Ahmad Khan, Congress spokespersons Pankaj Paliwal and Dr. Sanjeev Rajpurohit, and Youth Congress President Harshvardhan Singh Kelawat, among many others.
The Congress party firmly demanded the SHO’s suspension and swift arrest of those involved in the theft to uphold law and order and protect democratic values.
