### Inauguration of State-of-the-Art Digital Library Dedicated to Jain Scholar Madan Kumar Mehta

Udaipur. A library is not just a collection of books, but a vast repository of contemplation, reflection, and research. To acquaint students and the younger generation with the importance of libraries even in today’s digital age, a modern Madan Kumar Mehta Memorial Library has been established at Shri Jain Vidyalaya, Kolkata.

Madan Kumar Mehta, hailing from Badi Sadri in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, dedicated his entire life to Jain philosophy and literature. Through his deep study and research of Jain Agamas, he authored the Hindi translation Shri Bhagavat Sutra, which made the profound knowledge of Jainism accessible to the wider public. Significantly, he also played a key role in digitally preserving Jain scriptures under the Digital Library of India project in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.

In his memory, the newly modernized digital library at Shri Jain Vidyalaya, Kolkata, has been inaugurated. His son, Sudhir Kumar Mehta – an alumnus of the school and a senior advocate at the Calcutta High Court – undertook the modernization of the library and dedicated it to his late father. Madan Kumar Mehta was also among the founding members of the school.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Justice (Retd.) Ashok Kumar Gangopadhyay, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, as the Chief Guest.
