Farmer Training on Weed and Plant Diseases in Maize Crop

Under the All India Coordinated Research Project on Maize, a farmer training session was organized in the villages of Rundela, Changedi, Intali, and Morjai. The training focused on the damage caused by weeds, pests, diseases, and nematodes in maize crops. Alongside expert guidance, weedicide and pesticide kits were distributed to the farmers.

Dr. Harish Kumar Sumeria explained that stubborn weeds pose a serious threat to maize crops, especially in the early growth stages. These weeds compete for essential nutrients, water, and sunlight, significantly reducing crop yield. He guided farmers on identifying common weeds, the right time for spraying, how to prepare herbicide solutions, and precautions to be taken during application.

Dr. Ram Narayan Kumar shared valuable information on the identification of pests, nematodes, and plant diseases, along with the appropriate use of medicines at the right time to control them effectively.

Project in-charge Dr. Amit Dadhich urged farmers to switch from traditional maize varieties to high-yielding, pest-resistant, disease-tolerant, and low-water requiring hybrid varieties to achieve double production with fewer resources.
