Salumber/Udaipur : In a significant action against child labor and human trafficking in Salumber district, two tribal children from Sirohi were rescued from bonded labor with the intervention of the local NGO, Gayatri Seva Sansthan. The incident, which falls under the jurisdiction of Javar Mines Police Station, also led to the registration of a case against two individuals involved.
Under the Bonded Labor Act, the district administration of Salumber, led by Sub-Divisional Officer Akansha Dubey at Sarada, issued Bonded Labor Release Certificates to the children. This is the first such action taken in the district concerning bonded labor.
Dr. Shailendra Pandya, child rights expert and former member of the Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, praised the Salumber administration for this initiative. He explained that the certificates are issued under Section 6 of the Bonded Labor (Abolition) Act, 1976. These certificates serve as legal proof that the individual is no longer a bonded laborer, and no outstanding debts or claims against them will be considered valid. Moreover, the certificates are essential for availing government rehabilitation schemes and other support.
The rescued children will receive an interim assistance of ₹30,000, and the remaining amount of up to ₹2.7 lakh per child may be provided as part of rehabilitation, depending on the child’s home district.
Payal Kaneria, District Coordinator of Gayatri Seva Sansthan, Salumber, stated that with the support of Yashoda Pania, Executive Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, Udaipur, the children were brought from the Government Children’s Home to the Sarada Sub-Division Office. Amit Rao and child rights expert Sukhvinder from the NGO completed the necessary documentation and submitted it to the administration, following which the release certificates were issued.
The NGO is now planning to open bank accounts for the children and implement rehabilitation measures. Over the past month, a total of five child laborers have been freed from bonded labor in the district.
