The Udaipur Rural District Congress Committee held a protest meeting against the BJP-led state’s Parchi Government, citing the collapse of law and order, increasing crimes against women, repeated delays in local body elections, and the imposition of smart meters on domestic consumers. After the meeting, a memorandum was submitted to the administration, voicing strong opposition to the ongoing issues.
Congress in-charge and MLA Indira Meena criticized the state government, stating that the constitutional rights of local elected representatives were being undermined.
“Just as MLAs and MPs are elected through constitutional provisions, elections to Panchayati Raj and municipal bodies are constitutionally mandated every five years under the 73rd and 74th amendments. Several local bodies have completed their terms over a year ago, yet no elections have been held. This clearly reflects the BJP’s intention to weaken democracy and centralize power,” she said.
Udaipur Rural Congress President Kachru Lal Chaudhary slammed the Parchi Government for burdening households with smart meters.
“BJP ministers post photos of smart meters installed in their government residences—bills they don’t pay. If they truly believe in this scheme, let them install these meters in their personal homes and share those bills with the public. Only then can people believe their intentions are honest,” he demanded.
Former Lok Sabha candidate Tarachand Meena expressed deep concern over the worsening crime situation.
“In just one and a half years, law and order have collapsed. Incidents of rape, loot, dacoity, and chain-snatching are occurring daily. Sand mafia groups are brazenly displaying power across districts, but the Parchi Government remains silent. If the situation doesn’t improve soon, Congress workers will take to the streets and raise the issue in the assembly,” he warned.
The meeting also highlighted the lack of clarity on whether the free electricity scheme will continue under the smart meter system and demanded transparency from the government. Congress resolved to fight for the constitutional existence and relevance of Panchayati Raj and municipal institutions.
Following the meeting, a memorandum was submitted to the district administration on behalf of the Udaipur Rural District Congress Committee, demanding immediate corrective measures by the state government.
