Now Save Rooftop Rainwater: A Powerful Message on Water Conservation by Dr. P.C. Jain at NCC Camp

Udaipur, In a compelling awareness session at the ongoing 10-day NCC Camp of 2 RAJ R&Regiment, Navania, held at Sir Padampat Singhania University, renowned Water Hero Dr. P.C. Jain emphasized the urgent need to conserve rainwater. He urged everyone to recharge borewells and hand pumps using rooftop rainwater, warning that crores of liters are currently going to waste by turning into floods in streets and drains.

Matki Poojan – A Spiritual Start

The program began with a unique and devotional ceremony called Matki Poojan. Girl cadets worshipped a clay pot, singing “Om Jai Jal Dev Hare”, a prayer dedicated to water. The entire staff joined the aarti, reflecting collective reverence for this vital resource.

A Lesson on Water’s True Value

In a thought-provoking skit, Dr. Jain held a bottle of water in one hand and a ₹500 note in the other, asking a thirsty girl what she would choose. The girl instantly snatched the water bottle, ignoring the money — underlining that water is far more precious than wealth.

The Water Conflict Drama – A Realistic Scene

In a powerful street play, young girls portrayed ‘paniharins’ (village women) fighting at a hand pump due to low water supply. Tugging at each other’s hair, chaos broke out. Eventually, wise women intervened, suggesting that if every house connects its rooftop rainwater to the hand pump through a rainwater harvesting system, it would recharge the source and eliminate conflict. The play concluded with everyone agreeing on this sustainable solution.

Slogans and Group Pledges

The campus resonated with impactful slogans like
“Aakash ka paani rokenge, paataal ka paani badhayenge”
("We will store the rainwater and enhance groundwater")
and
“Barsaat ka paani bekaar nahi bahne denge”
("We will not let rainwater go to waste").
Cadets recited these slogans in unison with high energy and commitment.

Rain Dance with a Message

To spread the message creatively, students performed a rain dance to the song:
“Barkha ro paani bacha bachane, hand pump mein daalo re…”
(“Save the rainwater, pour it into hand pumps, tube wells, wells, and stepwells…”) –
emphasizing the importance of redirecting rainwater for reuse.

TDS Testing Reveals Water Quality

Dr. Jain used a TDS meter to test the water samples brought by the cadets. He explained that the sample’s TDS was just 64, while drinking water should ideally have a TDS above 200. This sparked concern over the declining quality of water being consumed.

Startling Survey Results

When asked how many cadets extract water from borewells at home, nearly everyone raised their hands. But when asked how many actually recharge their borewells, not a single hand went up. This alarming reality led Dr. Jain to issue a stern warning:
“If this continues, your next generation will not have drinking water.”

He urged everyone to immediately connect their rooftops to a rainwater harvesting system to recharge their underground water sources and preserve the future.

Are You Addicted to Mobile?

Dr. Jain also conducted a survey with 20 questions to assess mobile and internet addiction among students. The results showed that most students were excessively dependent on smartphones. He guided them on how to use mobile technology productively instead of being consumed by it.

Brilliant Performers in Street Plays

Students from Veterinary College — Shweta Yadav, Nirmala Kadwa, Suvita Kumari, Vaibhav Kumari, Shivani Penikar, and Jinal Kharadi — captivated the audience with their powerful acting in the street plays and message-driven performances.

A Grateful Conclusion

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Camp Commandant Colonel Prakash Kumar N, while Dr. Sunil Arora welcomed the dignitaries. Mihika Sharma played a key coordinating role throughout the event.

This NCC camp didn’t just teach discipline and fitness — it ignited awareness on rainwater harvesting, water conservation, and responsible living for a sustainable future.
