World Animal Welfare Day to be Observed on October 4 in Rajasthan

The Rajasthan Government has issued directives to celebrate World Animal Welfare Day on October 4, 2025 across the state. On this occasion, schools, colleges, and departmental institutions will organize awareness activities focusing on compassion and kindness towards animals.

According to the order released by the Animal Husbandry Department, the day will be observed to promote animal rights, prevent cruelty against animals, and enhance awareness about animal welfare in society. Following instructions from the Chief Minister’s Office, district-level officers and educational institutions have been directed to make necessary preparations.

Compassion for Animals as a Social Message

Traditionally observed on October 4 every year, World Animal Welfare Day emphasizes the message that animals are an integral part of the environment and life cycle. Hence, compassion and empathy towards them are essential. The Rajasthan Government believes educating children and youth is crucial so that a sense of responsibility and compassion for animals is developed from an early age.

This initiative follows a suggestion letter sent by Shraman Dr. Pushpendra to Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, urging the state to celebrate the day widely and implement strict penal provisions to prevent cruelty against animals. He also suggested that animal welfare schemes be announced and competitions, awareness programs, and campaigns promoting compassion for animals be organized.

Programs and Activities Planned

As per the directive issued by Director Anand Sanjara, government schools and departmental institutions will organize painting competitions, essay writing contests, street plays, exhibitions, and awareness rallies. The aim is to inform children and citizens about animal rights, protection laws, and welfare schemes.

In both rural and urban areas, exhibitions, video shows, and rallies will spread the message of animal care and conservation. The department has instructed that photos, videos, and press clippings of these events be submitted for a state-level report.

Community Participation and Accountability

The order specifies that District Joint Directors (Animal Husbandry) and ex-officio Secretaries of District Cruelty Prevention Committees will ensure the effective organization of programs at the local level. Active participation from schools, educational institutions, and the general public has been emphasized.

Officials stressed that the true spirit of Animal Welfare Day lies in society’s collective involvement. Only when citizens, students, and government institutions work together can a culture of compassion towards animals be firmly established.
