Bhawanimandi – While the nation celebrated Raksha Bandhan, the town of Bhawanimandi marked another milestone in its tradition of eye donation. On Saturday night, noted social worker and book seller Trilokchand Surana passed away, and his family decided to honour his wish for eye donation.
His nephews Jitendra, Anil, Nitin, and son Kshitij immediately informed District Food Traders’ Association President Rajesh Nahar. Dr. Kulwant Gaur of Shine India Foundation, who was waiting for his sisters to arrive for Rakhi celebrations, personally drove the Jyoti Rath (eye collection van) to Bhawanimandi, covering 120 km. At 11:00 PM, in the presence of family members and women of the household, the eye donation was successfully carried out.
Kshitij Surana shared that his father was deeply committed to the cause and had inspired the family to follow the same path. This donation became the 146th eye donation from Bhawanimandi and marked a record fifth donation from the Surana family. Previously, the eyes of Ratanlal Surana, Chamelibai Surana, Pukhraj Surana, and Tejkunwar Bai Surana had also been donated.
After completing the procedure and returning home at 1:00 AM, Dr. Gaur finally celebrated Raksha Bandhan, receiving Rakhis from his sisters Kriti Kiran and Bharti Joshi.
This event not only highlighted the Surana family’s legacy of service but also reflected Bhawanimandi’s growing reputation as a hub for eye donation in the Kota division.
