Udaipur, On the occasion of World Pharmacists Day, Rajasthan University and the Rajasthan Pharmacist Employees Association jointly organized a Pharmacist Honor Ceremony at the IT Auditorium in Pratapnagar. The event began with floral tributes and lamp lighting at the statue of Maa Saraswati. During the ceremony, 250 pharmacists were felicitated with shawls and certificates of appreciation.
Presiding over the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shivsingh Sarangdevot highlighted the crucial role of pharmacists as the link between doctors and patients. He noted that over one lakh patients die each year due to incorrect medication, emphasizing the heightened responsibility of pharmacists. While doctors prescribe medicines, pharmacists ensure correct dosage, timing, and patient guidance, making them essential to healthcare delivery. He also mentioned that World Pharmacists Day, celebrated since 2000 under the initiative of the International Pharmaceutical Federation in Istanbul, aims to recognize their contributions. This year’s theme focused on building trust in pharmacist-provided health services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmacists proved their importance by supplying oxygen, Remdesivir, and other life-saving medicines.
Dr. Vipin Mathur, Principal of RNT College, emphasized that the pharmacist’s work goes beyond dispensing medicines. He described it as a profession requiring science, service, and sensitivity, highlighting that pharmacists must communicate carefully with patients to ensure proper use of medicines. According to him, a good pharmacist not only guides patients on when, how, and in what quantity to take medicines but also takes responsibility for patient safety, making the profession a blend of technical knowledge and human care.
Speaking at the event, CMHO Dr. S.L. Bamnia and other dignitaries praised pharmacists for their dedication and professionalism. They noted that the role has expanded with government initiatives such as free medicine distribution, requiring pharmacists to engage deeply with patients to ensure effective treatment.
Other attendees included Prof. Manju Mandot, Dr. Gaurang Trivedi, Dr. Gajendra Singh Rathore, Dr. Kirti Rathore, Dr. Bharat Singh Devda, and over a hundred pharmacists from both private and government sectors. The program was conducted by Dr. Harish Chaubisa, with vote of thanks by Vijendra Singh Rathore.
