Udaipur, July 1. A newly constructed examination hall at Rajasthan College of Agriculture (RCA), Udaipur, was inaugurated on Tuesday by Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Shri Gulab Chand Kataria. The hall, built within the Department of Entomology, was funded with ₹20 lakh from Kataria’s MLA fund. Addressing the gathering in the new auditorium, Kataria emphasized that the solution to India’s massive unemployment lies in its own land — agriculture.
He stated that with a population of 1.4 billion, India needs to identify allied agricultural enterprises to utilize its vast manpower effectively. He highlighted the need to shift mindset, especially in tribal regions where farmers own small landholdings. Kataria urged scientists at MPUAT to develop sustainable models for small farmers that could include lemon, mango, or amla orchards, or even floriculture.
Kataria expressed concern over the harmful effects of excessive pesticide use, noting the rising number of cancer cases. He called for a focus on organic farming to ensure both health and income.
Guest of Honour Dr. Ajit Kumar Karnataka informed that 60 seats had recently been added at the college under the New Education Policy. Earlier, exams had to be held in three shifts due to lack of space; the new hall will now ease this burden.
Dean Dr. R.B. Dubey mentioned that over the years, RCA has produced thousands of graduates, postgraduates, and PhDs who are now serving across the globe.
Kataria also praised Udaipur’s water conservation practices, calling them unmatched even globally. Recalling the Devas Project initiated in 1965 by then CM Mohan Lal Sukhadia, he said that completing all phases of the project would green the entire Mewar region and potentially provide water up to Bisalpur.
He concluded by encouraging students to contribute to making India the world’s leading economy, stating that the nation looks up to its youth.
