MP Mannalal Rawat Assures Payment to Workers

Udaipur: Member of Parliament Mannalal Rawat took cognizance of media reports regarding the plight of laborers from Madhya Pradesh, who were allegedly denied full wages and driven away by the police outside the Collectorate. On Thursday afternoon, he met the workers, listened to their grievances, and immediately intervened by instructing the Forest Department officials to ensure their rightful payment.

MP Rawat visited Gandhi Ground, where around 150 laborers, including women and children, had been camping since Wednesday. He inquired about their food and shelter arrangements before gathering them at the municipal night shelter hall to discuss the issue in detail. Laborer representative Lalji stated that they were promised ₹70 per pit for digging and pond construction. However, after completing the work, a new contractor reduced the payment to ₹25 per pit. When MP Rawat asked for a written agreement, the workers admitted that they had worked on verbal assurance.

Rawat immediately called the concerned forest ranger and later discussed the matter with DFO Mukesh Saini, directing them to resolve the issue at the earliest and ensure full payment to the laborers. He emphasized that the workers had been stranded for four days without proper facilities and needed to return home to celebrate Holi.

To further address their concerns, MP Rawat took some laborers to the DFO office at Chetak Circle, where a direct discussion between the workers and DFO took place. The DFO assured them that payments would be processed as per government norms directly into their bank accounts to avoid future disputes.

After two hours of mediation, Rawat assured the laborers that their wages would be settled soon. He also pledged to raise concerns about police misconduct with senior officers and directed the CMHO to arrange medical aid for sick women and children.
