Dr. Jain Advocates for Water Helpline and Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting in Patna

Patna,  In a bid to address water-related emergencies and promote sustainable water management practices, Central Labor Enforcement Officer Deepak Chandra and his wife Ruby Kumari, a Ph.D. student at the University, visited the residence of Dr. P.C. Jain, a prominent figure in water conservation, to explore solutions.

During the meeting, Dr. Jain emphasized the necessity of establishing a dedicated helpline number for water emergencies, similar to the existing emergency services for police and medical assistance. He underscored the increasing prevalence of water-related crises, citing instances of burst pipelines, continuous water leakage, encroachment on water sources, and contamination of heritage wells and ponds.

Furthermore, Dr. Jain highlighted the importance of rooftop rainwater harvesting as a sustainable solution to mitigate water scarcity. He demonstrated to the visitors the simple yet effective methods of rooftop rainwater harvesting, emphasizing its potential to replenish groundwater levels and alleviate the strain on existing water resources.

Expressing concern over the depleting groundwater levels in Patna due to excessive water extraction, Dr. Jain proposed the installation of rainwater harvesting systems across the city. He elaborated on the functionality of these systems, which involve recharging groundwater through tubewells and hand pumps while also purifying the collected rainwater.

The visit witnessed the presence of Solar Woman Doctor Manju Jain, who echoed Dr. Jain's sentiments regarding the importance of water conservation and sustainable practices in addressing the water crisis.

Dr. P.C. Jain reiterated the urgent need for proactive measures to tackle water-related challenges and urged stakeholders to embrace innovative solutions for sustainable water management in Patna.
