 MPUAT :National Training Program on Organic Farming

Udaipur, - Under the auspices of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, a 21-day national training program titled "Natural Farming - Direction and Status for Conservation of Resources and Environmental Balance" is being organized by the Research Directorate, Udaipur, at the forefront of the Advanced Center for Organic Farming. The program, scheduled from February 6 to February 26, 2024, aims to provide advanced training in organic farming practices.

Dr. Ajeet Kumar Karnataka, Vice-Chancellor of Maharana Pratap Agriculture and Technology University, Udaipur, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his opening remarks, Dr. Karnataka emphasized that organic farming is not merely a technical aspect but also an environmental perspective that fosters harmony with nature. Natural farming contributes to soil health, promotes beneficial microbial growth, and preserves natural resources.

Addressing scientists and researchers from nine states participating in the training program, Dr. Karnataka stressed the importance of knowledge density and training in enhancing expertise in this form of agriculture. He highlighted the significance of components like Jivamrit, Beejamrit, Dhanjivamrit, mulching, and vaporization in organic farming practices.

As a special guest, Dr. Seema Jaggi, Assistant Director, Human Resource Development, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, announced the initiation of specialized courses on organic farming for undergraduate students nationwide. She expressed the need for training programs for scientists, teachers, subject specialists, and students to promote organic farming. Dr. Jaggi acknowledged Maharana Pratap Agriculture and Technology University for its extensive research and experience in organic farming.

Dr. P.K. Singh, Founder of the Advanced Center for Organic Farming and Director of CTE, and CCSHAU, addressed the trainees, highlighting the significance of southern Rajasthan in organic farming. He cited the example of farmers in Jhadol and Kotra Tehsils who, without using chemicals, successfully produced maize and wheat while conserving soil moisture.

Dr. Arvind Verma, Director of Research and Course Director, welcomed the guests and discussed how organic farming can contribute to the conservation of natural resources, maintaining an ecological balance. Dr. Verma mentioned the training's goal of creating 24 brand ambassadors for organic farming who will promote the practice in their respective states.

The program, is attended by notable figures such as Dr. R.A. Kaushik, Director of Extension Education, Dr. M.K. Mahla, Dean of Student Welfare, Dr. M.S. Paul, Professor at GBPUAT, Dr. Amit Trivedi, Regional Research Director, Udaipur, Dr. Rekha Vyas, Professor Emeritus, and Dr. Ravikant Sharma, Deputy Director of Research, witnessed Dr. Latika Sharma, Deputy Chairperson, steering the proceedings.

The event brought together experts and enthusiasts to explore the vast potential of organic farming in the context of sustainable agriculture and environmental conservation.
