Possibility of a Direct Train from Udaipur to Shikharji — DRM Hints at Feasibility Study

Udaipur — Responding to a long-pending demand of the Jain community, the Railway Department appears to be taking serious consideration of starting a direct train service from Udaipur to Shikharji (Sammed Shikhar), one of the most revered Jain pilgrimage destinations.

During his visit to Udaipur, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Ajmer Division, Raju Bhutada, indicated that feasibility is being explored for launching the service. The proposal was raised by Jayesh Champawat, a member of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee, who has been consistently advocating for the route.

DRM Bhutada mentioned that a survey will be conducted on the existing Udaipur–Sealdah route to examine the possibility of diverting or extending it via Shikharji.

During his inspection of Udaipur City Railway Station and participation in the Amrit Samvad Programme, DRM Bhutada emphasized that the Railways is continuously working toward improving passenger convenience and infrastructure.

On the occasion, Jayesh Champawat presented three major demands of Udaipur passengers:

  1. Launch of a direct train from Udaipur to Shikharji.

  2. Making the Udaipur–Haridwar train a daily service.

  3. Starting a direct train from Udaipur to Mumbai via Ahmedabad.

DRM Bhutada clarified that once the Asawara–Ahmedabad rail connectivity is completed, the Udaipur–Mumbai service will be initiated. However, due to heavy traffic at Haridwar station, making the Udaipur–Haridwar train daily may take some more time.

During the Amrit Samvad Programme, DRM Bhutada also interacted with the public, listened to their suggestions regarding the expansion of railway facilities, and instructed officials for the prompt resolution of employees’ issues.
