Udaipur, The Government Satellite Hospital, Hiran Magri, Udaipur, has achieved the prestigious National ‘LaQshya’ (Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative) Certification for excellence in maternity care. With this recognition, it has become Udaipur’s first government hospital to receive this national accreditation.
According to Dr. Rahul Jain, Superintendent of the hospital, a two-member expert team from Delhi — Dr. Seema Chopra and Dr. Preeti Madan — conducted a detailed evaluation on October 17, assessing the hospital’s infrastructure, equipment, human resources, quality protocols, and dignified care practices for mothers.
The team commended the hospital for its cleanliness, efficient labour room and maternity ward management, operation theatre, laboratory performance, and overall staff competency. Patient and attendant feedback was also considered in the assessment report.
Special appreciation was given to the hospital’s online QR code feedback system, toilet cleanliness monitoring through QR codes, the Setu referral system, and the daily color-coded bedsheet replacement protocol. Despite limited resources, the hospital performs 3–5 deliveries daily, ensuring consistent quality and compassionate care.
The facility operates under the supervision of Dr. Anuj Sharma and Dr. Sangeeta, both specialists in obstetrics and gynecology, who led the certification process.
Under the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS), certified institutions receive a financial incentive of ₹6 lakh annually for three years. This achievement marks a milestone for Udaipur’s public health services, setting a new benchmark for clean, efficient, and patient-friendly maternal care that will inspire other government hospitals.
About the ‘LaQshya’ Programme:
‘LaQshya’ — short for Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative — is a national programme of the Government of India aimed at enhancing the quality of maternity and newborn care, reducing maternal and infant mortality, and ensuring dignified treatment for patients. Hospitals are evaluated based on infrastructure, hygiene, staff training, patient experience, and adherence to quality standards.
Currently, the hospital conducts around 130 deliveries and 60 major surgeries (including hysterectomies and cesarean sections) each month. Plans are underway to introduce advanced laparoscopic surgical facilities to further improve maternal healthcare.
Present during the inspection were Dr. Rahul Jain, Dr. Devesh Gupta (Chief Medical Officer), Dr. Narendra Deval (Deputy Controller), Dr. Anuj Sharma, Dr. Sangeeta, Dr. Seema Jain (OT In-charge), Ratanlal Solanki (Nursing Superintendent), and Ramesh Ameta (Nursing Superintendent).
