Water conservation is a top priority—District Collector
Campaign to begin on June 5, Ganga Dussehra; daily events to continue till June 20
Udaipur, June 3 – In a determined move towards water and environmental conservation and to raise mass awareness, the state-wide Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan will be launched on June 5, on the occasion of World Environment Day and Ganga Dussehra, under the directives of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
District Collector Namit Mehta chaired a video conference with district and block-level officers on Tuesday to review preparations for the fortnight-long campaign. Emphasizing the importance of public participation, he instructed all departments to ensure active involvement of the community for the success of the campaign.
The meeting began with Zila Parishad CEO Riya Dabi briefing officials about the campaign. The District Collector discussed activities to be undertaken by various departments from June 5 to June 20 and gave necessary instructions. Stressing that the campaign is a state priority, he called on officials to treat it with utmost seriousness and to make each proposed activity a mass movement. He suggested inviting people through traditional “yellow rice invitations” and ensuring respectful involvement of public representatives.
He also focused on the "Karmabhoomi Se Matribhumi" initiative, urging departments to prepare for water harvesting structures and tree plantations under Hariyalo Rajasthan.
Key Events Planned:
June 5 (Launch Day):
Launch of the campaign at district level in presence of the Minister in-charge and Secretary. Water worship, cleaning of water sources, awareness workshops, cultural evenings, nature walks, distribution of Tulsi plants, green initiatives in offices, and eco-friendly art at selected sites.
June 6 (Nirjala Ekadashi):
Cleaning of canals and streams by the Water Resources Department in collaboration with farmers and user groups. Water testing and service activities by PHED and NGOs.
June 7:
Seminars by NGOs, Animal Husbandry, Devasthan, and Dairy Federation. Cleanliness drives in cow shelters, veterinary hospitals, and milk unions.
June 8-10:
Labour donation drives, awareness activities, inauguration of Amrit Sarovars, soak pit cleaning, review of CM Jal Swavalamban schemes, new irrigation project launches, and night choupals.
June 11-19:
Daily activities by Forest, Agriculture, Horticulture, Autonomous Governance, Groundwater, Education, Youth Affairs, PWD, etc. These include awareness drives, plantation, water conservation rallies, and cultural programs.
June 20 (Closing Day):
Village-level programs under "Catch the Rain – Jal Shakti Abhiyan", cleaning of water sources, awareness on water harvesting structures, and water testing by PHED. A closing ceremony will be held at both district and block levels, honoring contributors and supporting institutions.

The meeting was attended by ADM Administration Deependra Singh Rathore, UDA Commissioner Rahul Jain, Municipal Commissioner Ram Prakash, IAS Trainee Srishti Dabas, and Superintending Engineer Atul Jain from the Watershed Development & Soil Conservation Department. Sub-divisional officers, BDOs, Tehsildars, and other block-level officers joined via video conferencing.
