Lok Sabha General Elections 2024: Voting Proceeds Despite Challenging Terrain

Udaipur,The Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 witnessed voting operations surging ahead despite rugged paths, wilderness, and riverine landscapes obstructing the progress of duty-bound steps. Voting teams reached remote locations, ensuring participation in the democratic celebration by identified elderly and differently-abled voters, offering them the convenience of voting from their homes. This occasion marked the ongoing home voting under the guidance of the Election Commission of India, as per the directions issued.

In a bid to ensure the participation of every citizen, the Election Commission is resolute. Home voting facilities have been initiated for senior citizens aged 85 years and above and for persons with disabilities exceeding 40%. The first phase of home voting commenced on Sunday in the parliamentary constituencies of Udaipur, encompassing Gogunda, Jhadol, Khervada, Udaipur Rural, Udaipur, Salumbar, and Dungarpur, along with Aspur in Pratapgarh district and Dhariyawad and Chittorgarh in Mavli and Vallabhnagar constituencies, respectively.

In the Gogunda constituency, polling officials undertook a challenging journey amid jungle paths and extreme heat, traversing approximately 5 kilometers on foot to reach the home of 91-year-old Raji Bai with utmost secrecy, providing her with the opportunity to exercise her voting rights. The joy of participating in the grand festival of democracy was evident on Raji Bai's face, expressing gratitude to the administration for their efforts.

Similarly, in the Jhadol constituency, polling team number 6 climbed nearly a kilometer uphill to reach the home of differently-abled voter Anadu, facilitating his voting process.

Surana informed that the first phase of home voting will continue until April 21. For absent voters identified during the first visit, voting will be conducted on April 22 and 23. Those found absent on both occasions will miss out on voting.

These efforts reflect the commitment of the Election Commission to ensure maximum participation in the democratic process, even in the most challenging terrains and circumstances.
