Udaipur – On the occasion of World Asthma Day, a special awareness workshop was organized today by the Department of Pulmonary and Tuberculosis at Pacific Medical College & Hospital (PMCH). World Asthma Day is observed every year on the first Tuesday of May. This year's theme is "Make Inhaled Treatments Accessible for ALL."

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. U.S. Parihar, Principal of PMCH, Dr. C.S. Purohit, Head of the Pulmonary and Tuberculosis Department, Dr. Atul Luhadia, Dr. Sunil Kumar, Dr. Deepak Kalra, Dr. Manish Advani, and Dr. Jyoti Kumari, who paid floral tributes to the statue of Maa Saraswati.

During the workshop, Dr. C.S. Purohit emphasized that asthma is a chronic respiratory disease affecting millions of people worldwide, with nearly 35 million people suffering from asthma in India, including a large number of children and the elderly. Experts suggest that pollution, dust, smoking, and lifestyle factors contribute to the increasing cases of asthma.

Dr. Purohit stated that the purpose of this workshop was to raise awareness among the general public and medical students about the severity of asthma, its symptoms, prevention, and modern treatment methods.

Pulmonary and tuberculosis expert Dr. Sunil Kumar discussed the importance of spirometry and symptom-based diagnosis for bronchial asthma.

Dr. Atul Luhadia, another expert, shared a key message for World Asthma Day, stating that asthma can be managed and controlled with proper awareness and timely intervention. He emphasized that asthma could be controlled through early identification, appropriate treatment, and lifestyle changes. However, due to a lack of awareness, many patients do not seek timely treatment.

Dr. Luhadia also highlighted the importance of regular and proper use of inhalers, avoiding dust, smoke, and pollution, and incorporating physical exercise and yoga into one's lifestyle.

The workshop was attended by department heads from all PMCH departments, along with other doctors, medical students, and nursing staff.
