Udaipur: Doctors at the Cardiology Department of Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, Umarada successfully performed angioplasty on a patient's abdominal artery.
Chairman Ashish Agarwal informed that a 58-year-old patient was admitted to PIMS Hospital due to severe abdominal pain. A CT scan revealed a 99% blockage in the Superior Mesenteric Artery (SMA), a major artery supplying the intestines.
Following diagnosis, the patient underwent a successful angioplasty procedure performed by Senior Consultant and Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Mahesh Jain and his team. A stent was placed in the Superior Mesenteric Artery, relieving the blockage. The procedure involved critical support from Cardiac Anesthesiologist Dr. Vipin Sisodia and Surgeon Dr. Vivek Rawat.
Dr. Mahesh Jain explained that patients with such conditions often experience severe abdominal pain, especially after eating, and risk developing intestinal gangrene if untreated. Prompt treatment is essential to prevent life-threatening complications.
The patient was discharged three days after the operation and is currently in good health.
