Successful Non-Surgical Heart Hole Closure at PIMS Hospital

Udaipur– The Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, Umarda, has achieved a major medical milestone by successfully treating a hole in the heart without open-heart surgery.

PIMS Chairman Ashish Agarwal stated that the Cardiology Department closed a congenital heart defect without any surgical incision. The procedure was done entirely free of cost under the Chiranjeevi Yojana. The treatment was led by Senior Consultant and Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Mahesh Jain and his expert team.

Dr. Jain explained that the patient had a Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart condition where the duct between the two major arteries of the heart fails to close after birth. This condition, commonly referred to as a hole in the heart, can lead to symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, and delayed physical development.

Using PDA Device Closure, a minimally invasive technique, the heart defect was successfully closed. The PDA device resembles an umbrella with two discs and a central tube, which is guided through a catheter to the site of the defect.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Mahesh Jain, with significant support from Cardiac Anesthetist Dr. Vipin Sisodia and CTVS Surgeon Dr. Vivek Rawat.
