Udaipur, The second day of the "Hands-on Plastination" workshop, organized by the Department of Anatomy at Pacific Medical College & Hospital, was marked by intense practical sessions and enthusiastic participation. The participants not only learned the technique of extracting luminal casts using corrosion methods but also gained hands-on experience in whole organ and sheet plastination processes.
The day began with a demonstration of the "Corrosion Extraction of Luminal Cast" technique, where participants filled blood vessels and other tubular structures with resin and then corroded the surrounding tissues. This process resulted in luminal cast specimens that vividly displayed the body’s intricate internal structures.
Following this, the participants were trained in the complete procedure of whole organ plastination, involving dehydration and impregnation of organs with silicone polymers for long-term preservation. They actively engaged in stages like forced impregnation, hardening, and polymerization.
In the sheet plastination session, participants learned to prepare thin slices of biological tissues and preserve them in transparent polymer sheets. This technique is especially useful for clearly illustrating the fine internal anatomy of organs.
During the afternoon session, an exhibition was held showcasing the models created by the participants. These included luminal casts, whole organ plastination specimens, and sheet plastination slices. Faculty members, guest doctors, and attendees praised the models, describing these techniques as revolutionary for medical education.
Workshop Chair Dr. Hina Sharma shared that participants were given the specimens they created as mementos, encouraging them to continue exploring these techniques in the future.
At the closing ceremony, Workshop Secretary Isha Shrivastava thanked the participants for their enthusiasm and discipline and announced plans for more advanced workshops in the future. All participants were awarded certificates of participation.
Medical professionals from across the country attended and described the workshop as an exceptional hands-on experience. Faculty members from the departments of Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology — including Dr. Savita Gadekar, Dr. Meghna Bhowmick, Dr. Anjali Jain, Dr. Pritesh Menaria, Dr. Bhavna Shrivastava, Dr. Abid Hussain, and Dr. Kavita Dhidaria — played key roles in the success of the event.
