Vidyapeeth Transformed Under Prof. (Col.) S.S. Sarangdevot

The landscape of higher education at Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed-to-be University) has undergone a complete transformation under the visionary leadership of its Vice Chancellor, Prof. (Col.) S.S. Sarangdevot. Having assumed office on June 2, 2012, Prof. Sarangdevot is now entering his 14th year as the university’s seventh Vice Chancellor. Over these 13 years, he has not only reshaped the academic framework but also elevated the university to national prominence, as reflected in its NAAC A grade accreditation, placing it among the top universities in the country.

Prof. Sarangdevot, a distinguished educationist and intellectual, has brought dynamic reforms in curriculum development, digital infrastructure, research output, and institutional expansion. Before 2012, the university lacked any significant digitization, had limited academic offerings, and minimal research infrastructure. Today, thanks to his persistent efforts, over 70% of the library resources are digitized, with 1.7 lakh+ e-books, 3,500+ e-journals, and nearly full automation of the university’s library system.

The number of physical books increased from 1.47 lakh to over 2.73 lakh, and encyclopedia holdings have reached 100+ volumes. His leadership has also seen a massive rise in recognized academic programs—from just 5 UGC-approved courses in 2012 to 69 courses today, covering streams such as Agriculture, Law, B.Ed., B.Sc.-B.Ed., Yoga, Nursing, GNM, MSc, and Diploma & Certificate programs.

In terms of research, 95 PhD scholars have been awarded their degrees under his guidance, with 8 more currently pursuing their research. As Executive President of Vidya Pracharini Sabha and Chairman of BN University, Prof. Sarangdevot has equally demonstrated excellence in academic governance and thought leadership.

His passion for Indian culture and heritage is evident in the establishment of an on-campus museum, showcasing rare artifacts from archaeological excavations carried out by the university. He has also led the digitization of ancient manuscripts, preserving invaluable heritage material for future generations.

The infrastructural transformation is equally remarkable. The total built-up area has increased from 9,225 sq.m. to 66,233 sq.m. The number of computers grew from 97 to 816, laptops from 3 to 72, and smart classrooms from 0 to 12. Every department now houses its own seminar hall and faculty workspaces (cubicles), reflecting the focus on academic facilitation and faculty development.

One of the hallmark achievements of his tenure is the inauguration of a 125-bed hospital, serving both academic and public health purposes, along with two girls’ colleges that further his commitment to women’s education.

As Prof. Sarangdevot begins his 14th year at the helm, Rajasthan Vidyapeeth stands as a model of visionary academic leadership, technological integration, and cultural preservation. His journey continues to inspire educational institutions across the country, proving how one leader’s determination can redefine the future of an entire university.
