#### Daughters Can Save Families from Addiction

Udaipur — Under the auspices of the Anuvrat Committee, a special awareness program on “Girls Can Prevent and Treat Addiction” was organized at the Girls Hostel of the College of Technology and Agriculture Engineering. The keynote speaker, senior physician Dr. P.C. Jain, who has been associated with the de-addiction campaign for the past three decades, shared his real-life experiences where daughters helped save their family members from addiction.

Dr. Jain emphasized that a woman—be it a wife, mother, daughter-in-law, sister, or even mother-in-law—has the strength to save her family from any kind of addiction, as she herself remains largely free from such habits.

Speaking on mobile addiction, he pointed out that excessive screen use is making children aggressive and socially disconnected. He further warned that using digital devices during pregnancy affects the behavior and vision of unborn children, increasing cases of myopia. Moreover, around 50% of divorces today are caused by mobile addiction, and even in this case, only women can bring about change through awareness and compassion.

Cautioning the students, Dr. Jain compared the physical and psychological impacts of alcohol and tobacco on men and women. He noted that women are twice as prone to heart attacks and depression, and substance abuse can lead to miscarriage, deformities in children, and bone deterioration. Hence, women should stay away from all kinds of addiction considering their distinct biological makeup.

Explaining why people feel a strong urge to consume intoxicants, Dr. Jain referred to the acronym HALT, meaning: H for Hunger, A for Anger, L for Loneliness, and T for Tiredness — all triggers for addiction. He also alerted the students about date rape drugs, which are colorless, odorless, and tasteless, warning them to stay vigilant against their misuse.

Highlighting the role of family, he urged women not to argue or fight with addicted family members, nor to justify their actions, but to ensure they receive proper medical treatment. According to him, women play the most significant role in helping loved ones recover from addiction.

The program was presided over by Praneta Talesra, with Gagan Talesra, De-addiction In-charge, introducing Dr. Jain. Laxmi Kothari, Secretary, welcomed the guests, while Madhu Surana, Treasurer, presented a memento.

Hostel Warden Dr. Poonam, along with Parul, expressed gratitude to the Anuvrat Committee and thanked Dr. P.C. Jain. Dr. Alpana Bohra also graced the event with her presence.

Students Khushbu, Anjali, Pooja, Kajal, Suraj, Priyanka, Saloni, Bhavya, and others performed a de-addiction dance on the song “Aaja Re Ab Mera Dil Pukare, Ro Ro Ke Ghar Ke Saare, Badnam Na Ho Ye Nasha.” As a token of encouragement, Dr. Jain personally presented mementos to these students.
