Udaipur, Leaders of People’s Union for Civil Liberties and Left Parties today submitted a memorandum to the district Collector of Udaipur addressed to the President of India demanding immediate release of environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk who has been illegally arrested and placed in Central Jail, Jodhpur. A delegation led by Senior Advocate Arun Vyas, President of PUCL Udaipur, Yakoob Ali Secretary,Vice President Dr. Hemendra Chandalia , State secretary of CPI (ML) Shankar Lal Chaudhary, Rajesh Singhvi , district secretary of CPIM, senior journalist Himmat Seth, Advocate Manna Ram Dangi and other activists submitted a memorandum to the district collector Namit Mehta on 1 st October, 2025. In the memorandum addressed to the
President of India it is said that the government of India has been appreciating the contribution of Sonam Wangchuk. His contribution to Indian army , his innovations in preserving ecology, his educational reforms and his dedication to the people of Laddakh have won him laurels across the world. His movement has been on Gandhian lines and he has been asking only the promises made to the people of Laddakh to be fulfilled by the Union government. It is demanded that he should be immediately released and the demands raised by him must be met. Member of Parliament Comrade Amara Ram of CPIM went to meet Sonam Wangchuk in Jodhpur Central Jail but he was denied. This is nothing but fascism. The leaders demanded that the restoration of statehood, inclusion of Laddakh in sixth schedule and steps tp conserve the ecology and culture of Laddakh need to be ascertained. Her Excellency the President of India has been requested to direct the union government to take immediate action to restore peace and heed to the demands of the people of Laddakh.
