Two MPUAT Scientists Earn Global Recognition

Udaipur,  Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology (MPUAT), Udaipur, has earned international recognition as two of its faculty members have been listed among the world’s top 2% scientists. The list, released jointly by Stanford University and Elsevier, acknowledges exceptional contributions in research and innovation.

MPUAT Vice Chancellor Dr.  Ajjet Kumar Karnataka said this achievement reflects the outstanding research contributions of Dr. Narayan Lal Panwar and Dr. Vinod Saharan, both of whom have authored numerous research papers, patents, and books. The ranking is based on rigorous global metrics such as citations, h-index, co-authorship, and composite indices across 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-disciplines.

Dr. Narayan Lal Panwar, Professor and Head of Renewable Energy Engineering at MPUAT’s Faculty of Engineering, has been consistently listed among the world’s top 2% scientists for the last five years. This year, he also secured a place among India’s top 500 scientists. His research focuses on advanced cookstoves, biomass gasifiers, and solar thermal devices for industrial and rural applications. With over 200 research papers, 20 books, and 15 patents, Dr. Panwar has received several prestigious awards, including the Prakritik Urja Puraskar from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, IIT Delhi’s Shrimati Vijay-Usha Sodha Research Award (2014), the Rajasthan Energy Conservation Award (2018), and the NAAS Recognition Award (2023–24).

Dr. Vinod Saharan, Professor and Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at MPUAT, was recognized for his pioneering work in nanobiotechnology. He completed his Ph.D. from Ben-Gurion University, Israel, in 2005, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Volcani Research Institute, Israel, in 2007. Dr. Saharan has guided 20 M.Sc. and 8 Ph.D. scholars and currently oversees research projects worth approximately ₹2.3 crore. His work on biopolymers and nanomaterials in agriculture has been widely cited, with over 5,000 citations. He has delivered invited lectures in countries including China, Japan, Singapore, Germany, Poland, Israel, and the UAE. He also serves on the Biotechnology Department’s workforce committee of the Government of India.

This recognition not only highlights the individual excellence of Dr. Panwar and Dr. Saharan but also underscores MPUAT’s growing global presence in cutting-edge research and development.
