Plants 40 Red Sandalwood saplings, earns recognition as ‘Tree Man’

Social Worker Ghalib Baig Leads Plantation Drive

Kota, Renowned social worker and environmental enthusiast Ghalib Baig, a resident of Sanjay Nagar in Bhimganjmandi area of Kota North, carried out a plantation drive today along with his associates. He planted 40 Red Sandalwood saplings, each about 7–8 feet tall, entirely at his personal expense.

Baig has already earned the title of ‘Tree Man’ due to his relentless passion for greenery. Over the years, he has planted thousands of saplings and nurtured them into fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees, transforming his neighborhood into a green belt.

His efforts are particularly remarkable as the area, comprising Dalit and Muslim settlements, was once scarce in greenery. Today, due to his dedication, the locality is wrapped in a lush green cover.

Baig has not only planted diverse species including Ketal, Almond, Mango, Coconut, Ashoka, Neem, Peepal, and Banyan, but also personally ensured their maintenance. He hires caretakers at his own expense to protect and nurture the plants until they mature into trees.

At a time when the world is grappling with global warming and deforestation, Ghalib Baig sets an inspiring example. His message is clear—“If trees survive, life survives.”

His son, Faizal Baig, currently serves as the Congress Councillor from Ward 25 in Kota North, and holds the distinction of being the youngest candidate to have won with the highest margin of votes.
