Demand to Include Udaipur’s Historic and Cultural Heritage in UNESCO World Heritage List

Udaipur: Under the leadership of Pankaj Kumar Sharma, the District Congress Media Center of Udaipur submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, urging the inclusion of Udaipur’s cultural, historical, and natural heritage in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Pankaj Kumar Sharma, President of the District Congress Media Center, Secretary and Spokesperson of Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee, stated that Udaipur, known as the “City of Lakes,” is a source of pride not only for Rajasthan but for the entire nation. Its historic forts, palaces, temples, stepwells, ghats, gardens, and lakes, along with its unique architecture, Mewar’s valor, folk culture, art, music, and traditions, give it global significance.

The memorandum highlighted that cities like Ajanta-Ellora and Jaipur are already recognized by UNESCO, while Udaipur’s rich heritage has yet to receive this recognition. Inclusion in the UNESCO list would be a matter of national pride.

Key demands outlined in the memorandum included initiating the process through special recommendation letters via state and central governments, implementing concrete plans for the conservation and protection of heritage, conducting awareness campaigns with the support of social organizations, and executing special programs for cultural development and preservation.

Sharma emphasized that inclusion in the UNESCO list would strengthen heritage conservation, boost tourism, create employment opportunities for locals, and enhance Rajasthan’s identity on the international stage.

The event was attended by media center officials, workers, and residents of Udaipur, including Ashok Tamboli, Subhash Chittoda, Kanhaiyalal Menaria, Sanjay Mandwani, Lokesh Gakrecha, Sajjad Bhai, Mangilal Meghwal, Jamna Giri, Kiran, Chatru Devasi, Babulal, and Vikas.
