Udaipur: Renowned thinker and philosopher Dr. M.L. Nagda stated that the land of Mewar has been historically rich in saint traditions. According to him, saints not only inspired social awakening but also kindled devotion, harmony, and human values across the region.
Dr. Nagda shared these insights during the main lecture of the monthly session organized by the Montage Group. In a special session on “Folk Saints of Mewar – In the Context of Bawaji Chatarsingh Ji and Saint Bhuri Bai”, he described Bawaji Chatarsingh Ji as a “symbol of public awakening.” He emphasized the saint’s role in eradicating superstitions, promoting simple living, and highlighting the importance of labor and service in rural society. Referring to his literary contributions, Dr. Nagda quoted Bawaji Chatarsingh Ji’s works, which stressed self-respect:
"Par ghar pag ni melanon, vana maan manwaar.
Anjan aavai dekhanai, singal ro satkaar."
He also cited writings that encouraged residents during colonial India to rise against British oppression:
"Jago jago re Bharat ra veeran jago.
Thaano kathai kesharyo vaago.
The ho put vanara jaya, (jyaaro) jash surgaan tak laago."
At the beginning of his address, Dr. Nagda highlighted Saint Bhuri Bai, describing her life as a unique example of feminine strength, devotion, and public welfare. Through folk songs and bhajans, she imparted messages of social reform and empowerment, particularly inspiring women.
The special session was held at the Takhaman-28 Art Gallery, with Dr. Kamal Nahar delivering the subject exposition, Prof. Sadashiv Shrotriya presiding, and founder Dr. Paritosh Dugar extending the welcome and vote of thanks.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, enriching the discussion further.
