From Udaipur Villages to Global Recognition: Dr. Basant Maheshwari Honoured with IABCA Award

Udaipur, Udaipur has once again made its mark on the global stage. Dr. Basant Maheshwari, a world-renowned water engineer and scientist from Hinta village, has been awarded the prestigious IBCA Award by the Australia India Business & Community Alliance (IABCA).

Dr. Maheshwari’s pioneering initiative “MARVI”, implemented in the villages of Hinta, Dharta, Sundarpura, Badgaon and Varni, has introduced a new model of sustainable water management that is now being recognized worldwide. His remarkable contribution was celebrated on Engineers’ Day during a felicitation ceremony at Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic, Udaipur.

“Self-Reliant Villages are the Foundation of a Self-Reliant India”

In his keynote address, Dr. Maheshwari emphasized:
“For India to truly become self-reliant, its villages must first achieve self-sufficiency, particularly in water and soil management. Today, engineers must go beyond technical expertise and work with a deep understanding of social, economic, cultural, and environmental dimensions to ensure holistic rural development.”

Leaders Urge Youth to Contribute to Sustainable Development

Dr. Anil Mehta, Principal, Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic, stressed that youth must enhance their skills and work towards building a self-reliant society.

Jay Prakash Shrimali, Vice President of Vidya Bhawan Alumni Association, urged the engineering community to uphold the preservation of both nature and culture as their core mission.

Dr. Prafull Bhatnagar, KVK Chief Scientist, and Dr. Sushma Jain, Scientist, VBRI, highlighted water and soil management as key pillars of sustainable and self-reliant India.

Youth Engagement and Creative Expression

Engineering students marked the occasion by presenting their ideas and posters on the theme of self-reliant India, showcasing the vital role of engineering in nation-building.
The program was coordinated by Bhuvan Ameta and jointly organized by Vidya Bhawan Alumni Association, IEI, ISTE Student Chapters, PSG Eco Club, and Vidya Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
