Mumbai. Devi Chaudhurani, one of the most anticipated Bengali films of the year, has unveiled its first song ‘Durggamo Giri Kantaar Moru’ — and it stands as nothing short of a masterpiece. The stirring composition reimagines the immortal verses of Kazi Nazrul Islam and the patriotic fervor of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s ‘Vande Mataram’, brought to life with mesmerizing grandeur by Pandit Bickram Ghosh.
The track brings together the extraordinary voices of Iman Chakraborty, Timir Biswas, Durnibar Saha, Ujjaini Mukherjee, and Pandit Bickram Ghosh, whose combined artistry infuses the song with depth, devotion, and magnificence. As a true celebration of Bengal’s literary and musical heritage, the anthem reflects the trials and triumphs of the nation, while embodying the indomitable spirit of the film’s central character, Devi Chaudhurani. The music video further elevates this essence through evocative visuals and soaring vocals, crafting a deeply immersive experience.
Produced by Lok Arts Collective in association with Edited Motion Pictures, the track is a testament to meticulous artistry. All percussions and programming have been orchestrated by Pandit Bickram Ghosh, with melody programming by Kunal Das. The recording and mixing were carried out at Pandit Bickram Ghosh Studios, while the video has been edited by Rick Basu, creating a seamless harmony between tradition and contemporary musical sensitivity.
Sharing his thoughts at the launch, Prosenjit Chatterjee said:
“Devi Chaudhurani is more than just a film. Through this song, we remember the courage that lives within every woman who dares to rise against injustice. Bringing Bankim Chandra’s timeless story to life for today’s generation has been one of the most profound journeys of my career. I believe this film will equally inspire pride, reflection, and hope.”
Adding to this, Bickram Ghosh remarked:
“Durggamo Giri is an anthem deeply tied to the patriotic soul of every Bengali, drawn from one of Nazrul Islam’s timeless works. When Subhrajit proposed that I reimagine it, after much discussion, we decided to blend it with Vande Mataram. The arrangement features a unique mix of classical and folk elements, which makes it truly special. Creating this composition has been a deeply enriching experience, and I hope listeners feel the same magic we felt while crafting it.”
The film stars Srabanti Chatterjee in the soul-stirring titular role, alongside stalwarts Prosenjit Chatterjee, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, and Arjun Chakraborty. Marking the first Indo-UK collaboration in Bengali cinema, Devi Chaudhurani promises world-class production values, inspiring music, and a powerful narrative that seeks to redefine historical epics on screen.
The film is slated for release this Durga Puja, positioning it as one of the most awaited festive releases of the year.
