August : Hindustan Zinc (NSE: HINDZINC), the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, in association with the Forest Department, Udaipur organized a large-scale plantation drive under flagship initiative ‘Ek Ped Ma ke Nam’ as part of the Government’s Hariyalo Rajasthan campaign at Baghdarra Crocodile Conservation Reserve. The drive saw enthusiastic participation of dignitaries including Mr. Arun Misra, Chief Executive officer – Hindustan Zinc, and SR Yadav – Chief Conservator of Forests Wildlife, Udaipur along with Yadvendra Singh Chundawat – Deputy Conservator of Forest Wildlife, Udaipur; Rahul Bhatnagar – Retd. Chief Conservator of Forest Wildlife, Udaipur; Kishore Kumar S – Chief Operating Officer, Hindustan Zinc; Anupam Nidhi – Head CSR, Vedanta & Hindustan Zinc; Pradeep Singh – Chief HSE & Environment, Hindustan Zinc and close to 100 volunteers including Hindustan Zinc employees, forest department officials and students from Zinc Kaushal, Udaipur.
During the event, 500 saplings were planted, and further a target of planting and nurturing 5,000 saplings was taken up, reinforcing the commitment towards greener landscapes and biodiversity conservation. The initiative aims to encourage every individual to plant a tree in the name of their mother or any other loved one, thereby creating an emotional bond with nature while contributing to a healthier environment.
Speaking at the event, Hindustan Zinc’s Chief Executive Officer, Arun Misra, said: “I commend the Forest Department for their dedicated efforts in conserving wildlife at Baghdarra. At Hindustan Zinc, we are proud to contribute to the development of this park and envision Udaipur being celebrated not only for its lakes and palaces but also for its pristine natural habitats like Baghdarra. Our commitment goes beyond today’s plantation drive—we remain dedicated to supporting Baghdarra in protecting its species and preserving its rich biodiversity.”
SR Yadav – Chief Conservator of forest added: “Today, under the Hariyalo Rajasthan campaign, we have undertaken a plantation drive with a target of planting over 5,000 saplings at Baghdarra as part of the development plan in association with Hindustan Zinc and the Forest Department, Udaipur. This effort is not limited to plantation alone—it also includes eco-tourism initiatives such as developing walking trails, jungle visits, and nature tracks, along with habitat management like removing invasive species and restoring the land. Together, these steps will contribute to the holistic development of Baghdarra and the conservation of its unique biodiversity.”
Earlier this year, Hindustan Zinc signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Forest Department, Udaipur, for an investment of ₹5 crore towards the rejuvenation of the Baghdarra Crocodile Conservation Reserve. The project focuses on large-scale afforestation and habitat restoration, development of eco-friendly visitor facilities and walking trails, creation of water conservation structures such as ponds and check dams, and scientific interventions to protect and sustain the crocodile population and other wildlife. By combining these measures, the initiative is designed to preserve Rajasthan’s natural heritage while simultaneously promoting eco-tourism and enabling sustainable livelihoods for local communities
