Coordination Meeting for Declaring Mangarh Dham a National Monument

###MP Dr. Rawat Initiates Key Step over Mangargh Dham

Udaipur,Following the persistent efforts of Member of Parliament Dr. Mannalal Rawat, a coordination meeting will soon be held to consider declaring Mangarh Dham as a national monument. After receiving information from Dr. Rawat, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, has issued orders for the meeting. Officials from the Ministry of Tourism, Archaeological Survey of India, local representatives, Udaipur MP, and representatives of the Jhabua Shivganga Mission will participate.

Dr. Rawat highlighted that the Union Minister has shown seriousness regarding this matter and has instructed a meeting to expedite the process. This initiative is expected to accelerate the demand for recognizing Mangarh Dham as a national monument.

In the Lok Sabha, Dr. Rawat had referred to this issue under Rule 377 and during Zero Hour, emphasizing the historical sacrifices of tribal communities during India’s freedom struggle. Among these, the massacre at Mangarh Dham under Govind Guru’s leadership is considered a highly significant and tragic event, even more horrifying than the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Over 1,500 tribal freedom fighters were martyred in this massacre, igniting the flame of rebellion against British rule in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

Tribal communities in southern Rajasthan have long demanded that Mangarh Dham be recognized, preserved, and developed as a site of historical and national pride. Although the Archaeological Survey of India had not found any ancient remains or structures at the site to declare it of national importance, the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has recommended its recognition as a national heritage site. A three-member team appointed by the Commission conducted an in-depth study of Mangarh Dham, documenting its historical significance and the sacrifices made by tribal freedom fighters. The report strongly recommends that the area of Mangarh Hill, where thousands of tribals laid down their lives defending freedom and dignity, be declared a national heritage site immediately.

Following this recommendation, the Union Minister has directed the coordination meeting involving multiple departments to take the next steps toward recognizing Mangarh Dham as a national monument.
