Bengaluru Senior Tours World for Organ Donation, Road Safety

Udaipur, Sixty-five-year-old B.V. Narayan from Bengaluru has set out on a global motorcycle journey with the mission of promoting organ donation and preventing casualties in road accidents. Having spent nearly 15 years in New Jersey, USA, working at a petrol pump, as a roadside assistant, and as a handyman in plumbing and gardening, Narayan’s life took a decisive turn after an accident in America. He returned to India in 2003.

Narayan, the son of a mechanical engineer, developed a passion for machines at a young age. After his return, he built a modified scooter for the son of a friend who was unable to walk, which inspired him to design and fabricate vehicles for differently-abled persons. His work progressed successfully until the COVID-19 pandemic halted operations. Attempts to find alternative employment were unsuccessful due to his age.

While building vehicles for the differently-abled, Narayan observed that many young people lose their limbs in road accidents. He realised that preventing such disabilities was even more important than providing mobility solutions afterward. Determined to address this, he designed a motorcycle for himself and began a world tour to raise awareness about organ donation and road safety.

So far, Narayan has travelled to 89 countries, including Egypt, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Cameroon, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, and several European nations. Starting his latest journey from Bengaluru on 28 February, he travelled through Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Delhi, and Bharatpur before arriving in Udaipur on Wednesday night. At the Information Centre here, he shared that his next destinations would be Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Alaska.

Addressing youths in Udaipur, Narayan emphasised that organ donation is a noble cause and that promoting it can help build a better society. He noted that young people are both the strength of India and the demographic most affected by road accidents. He urged that this Independence Day, every young person should pledge to spread awareness about organ donation and strictly follow traffic rules.

Narayan also appreciated the sensitivity of governance in Rajasthan under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. During his travels in the state, he met many youths who praised the government’s initiatives. In Bharatpur, he met District Collector Qamar Chaudhary, whose working style and compassion left a lasting impression on him. Similarly, upon meeting Udaipur Collector Namit Mehta on Wednesday evening, his efforts were also acknowledged and appreciated.
