Late-Night Lobbying, Political Pressure and Faculty Factionalism Trigger Third Postponement in a Year; Inside Complaints Reach Higher Education Department

Power Struggle at MLSU: Govt Halts BOM Meeting Over Contentious Appointments and Promotions

Udaipur — In a dramatic late-night twist, the Rajasthan government cancelled Mohanlal Sukhadia University’s (MLSU) Board of Management (BOM) meeting scheduled for Wednesday morning, just hours before it was to begin. The order, issued at 11:49 pm on Tuesday, has exposed deep divisions within the university’s administration and faculty ranks.

Insiders say the cancellation was directly linked to a set of highly sensitive agenda items: approving the disputed inclusion of Dr. P.S. Rajput’s non-teaching service in his teaching tenure for promotion under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), validating the appointment of Prof. M.S. Dhaka, and opening sealed interview results for four posts at the Population Research Centre.

According to sources, intense lobbying had been underway until the last minute. One camp, reportedly close to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sunita, pushed to retain Dr. Rajput’s promotion on the agenda, while the opposing group escalated their objections directly to the Higher Education Department.

ABVP Joins the Battle
On Wednesday morning, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest outside the administrative block, handing over a memorandum to Registrar Dr. Vriddhichand Garg. ABVP University Unit President Praveen Tank alleged that Prof. Dhaka’s appointment violated rules and that Dr. Rajput’s service record was manipulated. He also demanded an inquiry into the BCA third-semester Java results, where over 70% of students reportedly failed.

Complaints Reaching the Top
Sources confirmed that in recent weeks, multiple complaints — some written, some verbal — were sent to the Higher Education Department by MLSU faculty members. These raised concerns not only about appointment and promotion procedures but also delays in extending contracts for non-teaching staff, which have harmed the administration’s image.

Vacancies and Factionalism
Three key BOM seats — the Governor’s nominee and two MLAs — remain vacant, giving rise to fears of one-sided decision-making. Meanwhile, faculty divisions have hardened into open rivalry.

Old Dispute, New Twist
The service adjustment dispute involving Dr. Rajput has been ongoing for two years. His promotion was once again on the table this time. Adding to the intrigue, Prof. M.K. Jain has accused the Vice-Chancellor of unlawfully removing him from BOM membership to install Prof. Dhaka.

With state intervention, late-night cancellations, and faculty politics spilling into the open, MLSU now finds itself in the grip of one of the most politically charged governance crises in recent memory.
